It may be volcanic...or just Aukland, NZ

Well i have met my first encounter with a Brit of all travelers that hate the US and is not shy about telling me how messed up the US is.  He is older and I already pushed his buttons so I feel a win in the air.  Not like we will be best buds during my next 5 days.  But on the greater side of things I have a great roommate named Duco Ottevanger, who is Dutch from the The Netherlands.  He is about 6'4 and all of about 100 lbs soaking wet, 22 years old and spending the next 6 weeks touring New Zealand.  I feel sorry for him.  He is on a break from school as as he claims it was not going well.  good for him to identify scholastic failure so early and take off and travel New Zealand....what the Fcuk?  which is a clothing line by the way...lol.  He was living at home, ate every meal with his family, he has a younger brother, 19 also at home and had to pay his parent's rent, I guess that is the resolution of parents to say if you live in my home you live by my rules which is what I heard alot.  Guess that is why I moved out rather young.  Had my parents thought to charge rent for the room I may not have ever left home....just kidding.

My other roommate in my 4-share at the Auckland, International YHA is a guy 55 kinda looks like Elmer Fudd for those of you who are of age to recall the Bugs Bunny cartoon.  He is on a mission to get married, I left it alone and wished him good luck as he left last night to head out to a bar.  I left all my exes in Texas and know better that to go searching for a new one in a bar.  I walked with my new friend; Duco down from our hostel to the harbor.  It is nothing like Sydney's picturesque, tourist attraction stuffed, souvenir shop laden, ferry to other exciting destination packed, over-priced restaurant littered but an industrial shipping harbor with large 18-wheeler container ships loading/unloading and a single cruise ship (small, Duetschland) that my friend Duco said was full of German tourists.  He shared that there was a quota on the # German tourist allowed to remain in New Zealand.  Said it was a big vacationing destination, I guess they like the laid back environment, it even makes you walk really slow.  I did like that they have those street lights like in Asian countries where all the lights for cars are red at the same time and then the little green walking man comes on for all of humanity to walk, skip, jog or just slowly meander in any and all directions including diagonally across the center of the road all at the same time.  It was so fun to just see how long you could stand in the middle of the road and time getting to any corner before the light changes.  It isn't all that dangerous as you have a timer clicking off the amount of time till the light changes.  Just a simple pleasure.

I have decided the thing to do in Auckland is leave.  All the tourist things to do list at the Hostel say to leave on a trip outside the city.  I will research tomorrow a quick cheap flight to other cities  for cultural interests.  Auckland rolls up the streets at 10pm.  Gotta hit the road soon.
